Day 3

We are the TRAIL SLAYERS!!!

(aka mountain goats)

Vicki brought her Kurry Keurig. She was the most popular appliance on this trip.

Kody setting up her camera
Well let me see if I can do it 🤣
Finally a shot of the four of us heading out on today’s hike. We are hiking the Skyline trail and the Old CCC trail which combined make a loop so no backtracking today. It’s a 4.5 mile hike.
Very different terrain from yesterday but so beautiful!
Dry River bed
We crossed several bridges.

Another very rocky trail
And steps

We like to take pictures of us taking pictures 🤣.
The sky is so blue.

Look up there.
That’s where we’re going. Just kidding!
Well the joke was on me. That’s exactly where we went.
And these are the views from the top.
You can see for miles and miles.

Trees along the Limpia creek.
They match Kody’s shirt.

Incredible rock formations.

There are rocks of every color: white, black, orange, yellow, red etc.
Look at the striations in this rock!

Had a very nasty fall but only a few scrapes and bruises. Praising the Lord for His protection  Kody doctored me up with her essential oils.
Colleen wanted a pic of how my hand landed in the rock. It bent back at an angle that is not natural and I was so afraid I had broken it but it doesn’t even hurt now.
hell’s  catoot! It’s a holy roller pileup. Kody’s grandpas saying.

So we weren’t really supposed to be here but we took a wrong turn. In all fairness it wasn’t our fault. The sign was turned around in the wrong direction. It added another mountain and 3/4 mile to our hike.
Same spot just facing the other direction.

Waiting on Vicki and Kody to come back down.
Here they come.

We decided this rock looked like a gorilla.
Kody and me trying to figure out which direction to go since we’re no longer on the right trail. That way, no I think we’re here, no I’m pretty sure we’re lost 🤣. Of course we weren’t. Just had to do some of that backtracking we were trying to avoid today.
Elevation gain of 997’
5.24 miles
3 hrs 52 min
And we finally made it back to the car. Another amazing hike basking in God’s creation.
These pics are from inside the historic lobby of the Indian Lodge inside Davis Mountains State Park. We tried to get reservations here but they didn’t have any rooms. 🙁
The following photos are for John and his cedar creations.

We stopped at the McDonald Observatory but they were closed.
Sawtooth mountain
The rock pile. It’s actually called that on the map.
Once again arranging the camera so we can all be in the picture. Thank you Kody!
Pump house 1823-1991
Colleen’s been complaining so much we wouldn’t let her stand by us. 😂
My ankle is a bit swollen from twisting it when I fell. This is the sweet spot on the porch for wifi to work on this blog.

Our stats today.

This has been a most wonderful get away with incredible friends. We have laughed so hard, shared so much, blessed each other in so many ways and thoroughly enjoyed our time together. We’ve also decided this is only the first of more hiking adventures. So until the next time..
